Can Physio help with Endometriosis?
Dealing with the horrible symptoms of Endometriosis can make you feel like a member of a secret society, one that you never signed up for…
Pain, fatigue, and plenty of frustration.
it’s all real.
But… what if I told you there's a hidden ally, ready to sit with you, in your corner, that you might not have considered?
Enter Pelvic Health Physiotherapy, your new best friend on the journey to managing Endo symptoms.
Understanding Endometriosis
Endo is a pest of a condition. It’s where tissue that’s similar to tissue that lines your uterus, starts growing outside of your uterus.
Sometimes this is inside your pelvis, around your bladder, bowels or intestines.
Sometimes, it’s in much more random places, like your lungs, diaphragm or brain 😵💫.
The result?
Pain, inflammation, and a whole big rollercoaster of accompanying emotions.
Why Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy?
Thankfully, the Australian Clinical Guidelines for the treatment of Endometriosis now list Physiotherapy as a positive option for treating Endometriosis.
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy sessions are always personalised to you, so they vary a lot from person to person.
They are often a mix of exercises, hands-on techniques, and they provide a safe space to discuss your concerns.
Physio sessions can include :
Education: This is key! Helping you to understand your anatomy, and the triggers and activities that might be impacting your pain. We work with you to make sure you have a complete understanding of how Endo may be contributing your symptoms.
Hands-on techniques, like massage to help reduce overactivity, tension, and and pain in pelvic muscles, and elsewhere.
Breathing and Relaxation Techniques to help you relax your nervous system, and improve your pelvic floor’s ability to move better.
Exercise Advice: to both strengthen, and stretch, as well as advice to help you vary and optimising your exercise schedule, depending on where you are in your cycle.
What to Expect During a Physio Session?
This is what you’ll get: a relaxed and supportive environment, a knowledgeable and empathetic health professional, and a personalised plan just for you.
